Seattle Mariners Deal With Felix Hernandez Will Set Off Major Free Agent Movement For Young Pitchers

Felix Hernandez will, presumably, be a Seattle Mariner until 2021
Felix Hernandez will, presumably, be a Seattle Mariner until 2021

**Update (9:36 p.m., 2/7/2013): Reports have the agreement between Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners as a five-year extension (beginning in 2015) worth $135.5 million dollars ($27.1 million dollars annually will make him the highest annually paid pitcher in baseball history)**

For the sake of the article lets assume that Jack Zduriencik, general manager of the Seattle Mariners, is a smart man.

While I personally do not understand what he is doing with this franchise, lets all assume that the reported seven-year, $175 million dollar deal they have with Felix Hernandez was necessary for them as a team and that it will be good for them in the long run. Roger Clemens Trial Does Nothing To Change Public, Voter Opinion

(Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

Let me be the first to say this about the Roger Clemens trial: I’m glad that’s over.

After numerous missteps, a mistrial, jury selections that never ended, and finally an acquittal I can honestly say I’m done with any and everything sports related in a federal courthouse that involves PED use.  Continue reading “Roger Clemens Trial Does Nothing To Change Public, Voter Opinion”

Texas Rangers Are A Good team, Lets Not Get Carried Away Yet

The Texas Rangers have put together a fine baseball team. As a matter of fact, they might have the best team in baseball right now. Right-this-very-moment.

Other than that, lets stop getting carried away.  Continue reading “Texas Rangers Are A Good team, Lets Not Get Carried Away Yet”

Major League Baseball Power Rankings Week 4 (4/30/2012)

Late edition of my weekly power rankings this weekend after a packed weekend. The Rangers, Nationals, Braves and Dodgers continue their recent stretches of great baseball, the Boston Red Sox have shown new life, and one team takes a nosedive. On to it!

  1. Texas Rangers (17-6)- Since his first start, Yu Darvish has given up three earned runs in 27.1 innings pitched; striking out 28 batters and lowering his season opening ERA from 7.94 to 2.18 to go along with a 4-0 start. Continue reading “Major League Baseball Power Rankings Week 4 (4/30/2012)”

Major League Baseball Power Rankings Week 3 (4/23/2012)

Week three power rankings see the Rangers on top for the second consecutive week. Braves and Nationals are rising fast after solid weeks.

  1. Texas Rangers (13-3)- at 13-3 not much going wrong for this ball club. Adrian Beltre currently sitting out with a strained hamstring injury. Also would love to get Elvis Andrus going (.230 BA, 1 steal, 11 K’s) Continue reading “Major League Baseball Power Rankings Week 3 (4/23/2012)”

Major League Baseball Notes 4/23/2012: Boston Red Sox Players Need To Grow Up And Face The Facts

“I know Youk plays as hard as anyone I’ve ever seen in my life and I have his back and his teammates have his back, We know how hard he plays. I don’t really understand what Bobby’s trying to do, but that’s not the way we go about our stuff around here. I’m sure he’ll figure that out soon.” -Dustin Pedroia

The Boston Red Sox are 4-10 and the team earned run average (ERA) is over seven. Since September their starters have been pedestrian and their bullpen can’t finish. Did I mention they are 11-30 during that stretch?

That how things are done in Boston now, Dustin? Continue reading “Major League Baseball Notes 4/23/2012: Boston Red Sox Players Need To Grow Up And Face The Facts”

Major League Baseball Notes 2012: Bobby Valentine Says Crazy Things, Don’t Be So Sensitive About It

First before I wax hypocritical let me clarify that title. Bobby Valentine isn’t professing his admiration for world dictators.

That’s off my chest, now I can say that more than once this season Bobby Valentine will be quoted as saying something stupid. His comments on Kevin Youkilis weren’t completely off-base.  Continue reading “Major League Baseball Notes 2012: Bobby Valentine Says Crazy Things, Don’t Be So Sensitive About It”
