MLB 2012 Season Preview: Top-5 Salaries To Regret In 2012

Economics in baseball has always been a hot button topic among fans and non-fans of baseball.

Disclaimer: I decided to take it easy on the guy pictured above and not list him! Continue reading “MLB 2012 Season Preview: Top-5 Salaries To Regret In 2012”

MLB Fantasy Baseball 2012: Top Five Outfielders In Fantasy Baseball

Now, more than ever, it is important to have more than one skill set as a major league baseball player. No longer can you mash 40-plus home runs and be deficient in every other area. You can steal the world in bases, but if you can’t find a way on base consistently (On-Base percentage),  draw walks, and hit for average there will be someone who knows about it. And they will be ready to exploit this.  Continue reading “MLB Fantasy Baseball 2012: Top Five Outfielders In Fantasy Baseball”

MLB Spring Training 2012: After Dismal Sophomore Season Is Jason Heyward Or Buster Posey Primed For The Bigger Comeback?

In 2010 the Atlanta Braves Jason Heyward and the San Francisco Giants Buster Posey were the headliners for that years rookie class. Continue reading “MLB Spring Training 2012: After Dismal Sophomore Season Is Jason Heyward Or Buster Posey Primed For The Bigger Comeback?”

MLB Fantasy Baseball 2012: Top Four 2011 Breakout Players To Avoid In 2012

Every year a player takes that “leap to super stardom” with a performance that was neither expected or even explained. Some make that leap and stay there as Brian McCann did back in 2006. McCann was a “tweener” prospect at best when he was coming up with the Atlanta Braves; good enough bat to stick, but nothing spectacular. Now a six-time All-Star and five-time silver slugger winner, McCann is arguably the best offensive catcher in the game. Then there are others who, for one reason or another, never quite figure it out after that career year (Geovany Soto ring a bell?).

These players can sink a fantasy roster because you put your eggs in their basket and expect them to duplicate those numbers. Continue reading “MLB Fantasy Baseball 2012: Top Four 2011 Breakout Players To Avoid In 2012”

MLB Spring Training 2012: Atlanta Braves’ Chipper Jones Causes Stir With Recent Comments

I think its safe to say that Chipper Jones was taken out of context.

Yesterday, comments were printed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution  and reported by David O’Brien that read something like this: Continue reading “MLB Spring Training 2012: Atlanta Braves’ Chipper Jones Causes Stir With Recent Comments”

MLB Spring Training 2012: Charlie Manuel And The Philadelphia Phillies Don’t Speak In Metaphors

Charlie Manuel is a manager that knows the definition of riding a wave.  He’s the kind of guy who tells it like it is, but in a way so veiled with his southern drawl you would probably walk away ten steps before you realized you were just told off. 2012 MLB Fantasy Baseball 101: Top Five Fantasy Rookies To Watch

There are things in fantasy baseball that can perpetually frustrate a manager. None more frustrating than banking on a hot rookie and eating crow for it later. That being said I’m here to help. Because for every sensation (Craig Kimbrel, 2011) there are bound to be misses (seriously? What happened Brandon Belt?). Lets take a look at some who will help you in your quest for fantasy supremacy and bragging rights with your friends. Mike Stanton

I’ve been involved in the game of baseball for almost 22 years now (which isn’t saying much considering I’m soon to be 28). I’ve always admired the home run ball as one of the most beautiful sights in all of sports. I wait for those home run swings that appear to stop everything in that moment. Not everyone has that kind of power. Griffey did. Reggie Jackson did. Few had the ability to hit that stop-you-in-mid-sentence bomb.

Mike Stanton is definitely one of those guys.

The 22-year old slugger has only begun to show us his mammoth power. As a Braves fan it scares me. As a fan of baseball I can’t wait.

The Pittsburgh Pirates Would Do Well Avoiding Burnett Trade

Three years ago I made a plea to the Pittsburgh Pirates not to blow up the team they were building. Needless to say they didn’t listen to me and went in a direction that is somewhat admirable. Continue reading “The Pittsburgh Pirates Would Do Well Avoiding Burnett Trade”
